Tomorrow I hit 38 weeks! Crazy! 2 weeks 1 day until my due date, but in reality she could come at any time. I’m so ready to meet her. This week I’ve really been trying to be strict and do all the things I want to do to prep for baby’s arrival. I’ve been using my Epi-no (not often enough), drinking birth-prep smoothies, listening to Hypnobabies (not often enough), and just relaxing as much as possible. I’ve been a bit emotional on and off, not at all crazy or ragey, but weepy every few days. Mostly I’m calm and excited to meet our little one. I can’t wait!
I had my first weekly appointment on Thursday, baby is still head-down positioned for her exit and measuring right on schedule. My midwives didn’t do a cervical check so I don’t know if I’m close or progressing, but I honestly don’t mind because I’ve read that cervical checks can be misleading anyway. I don’t want to get my hopes up when baby isn’t really ready. I also got my results back from the GBS testing I did at 36 weeks and I tested negative for Group B Strep! Huzzah! I don’t have to have IV antibiotics during labor.
We scheduled all my remaining appointments and it’s crazy to think I might not even make it to our next one, though I think I will. I think baby is going to take her sweet time, though I hope I’m wrong. I’m ready to not be pregnant anymore and my skin is begging for mercy.
How far along? 37 Weeks.
Trimester? 3rd!!! Wooo final phase. 2 weeks 1 day left till my due date!
Total weight gain/loss: So far I’ve gained 30 lbs (it’s really stepped up the last few weeks with no dietary changes…yay…). I measured my belly this week and it was 42 inches!
Baby size: Swiss chard (I swear these comparisons make no sense at all), 19.09 inches from head to toe, 6.28 – 6.39 lbs.
Maternity clothes? The maternity leggings from Motherhood and Target are heavenly. I didn’t really buy maternity tops, a few but mostly just larger tanks, my enormous belly has finally outgrown my normal shirts (which I was still wearing all the time). I also got a couple t-shirt dresses from Target and they are so comfortable.
Stretch marks? Unfortunately genetics have won, I have developed stretchies and they have grown. I was really hoping to escape this fate and religiously greased myself up (and continue to grease) at least 4 times a day with many products, but alas, as I had previously read creams are nonsense. Genetics determine all. There’s no secret preventative tool, if you escape stretchie hell, you’re just genetically blessed (and I hate you lol).
Sleep: Sleep sucks right now. I can’t sleep on my sides anymore because it causes too much pelvic pain. I have to sleep on my back with a pillow under 1 side (to tilt me away from lying completely on my back), with the bed elevated. It’s not the best. I wake up to pee once a night and am just generally miserable. I do sleep though which is nice, some people don’t get any sleep.
Best moment this week: Seeing my midwife and hearing baby’s heartbeat. It’s amazing every time but this week it was really special because it could be the last time that happens. I also really loved our drive through the Blue Ridge Mountains, even though we almost hit a sprinting 800 lb black bear. Definitely the last road-trip we’ll take till baby comes.
Have you told family and friends: Yes! We announced on Christmas with a surprise reveal which was really fun.
Movement: Baby moves a lot, as much as she can at least which mainly means she jabs her limbs about and hits organs.
Food cravings: No cravings, I just hate my testing days and love my free days.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Just smells as usual, mostly Cashew’s fish whispers and the smell of human breath.
Have you started to show yet: Yes! Feeling enormous and disgusting!!!!! I officially waddle.
Leakage: Yes but not everyday, and only little tiny bits.
Gender prediction: We are having a lady, confirmed via anatomy scan at 18 weeks. We also did a Sneak Peek blood test at 10 weeks.
Labor Signs: Last night I thought I was going into labor, but I’m still here so apparently not. I woke up in the middle of the night with cramps in my back and my belly hardening. I went back to sleep assuming if it were real labor I would wake up when it was more serious. When I woke up I felt fine so no labor for me. Baby is content in her womb. No water breaking or mucous plug loss or anything like that.
Belly Button in or out? I have a full flatty. My inny wasn’t super deep so it’s as “out” as it’s going to get.
Wedding rings on or off? Off, at the end of 34 weeks swelling started. It’s mild but enough that when combined with the humidity here, I just don’t like the feel of my ring anymore. I got an Amazon silicone ring, I don’t like wearing nothing.
Happy or Moody most of the time: I’m so happy but I do have weepy spells every few days.
Weekly Wisdom: Whatever happens just roll with it. You can’t control what goes on in your womb-sack so just be happy, calm, and hope for the best!
Milestones: Had my first weekly appointment, and if baby came now she’d officially be early-term rather than pre-term, greatly reducing the possibility of needing time in the NICU.
